Strong Notrump & Five-card Majors

Why have I written a book on Strong Notrump and Five-card Majors when my basic teaching method is, and will remain, Four-card-Major Weak Notrump British Acol?

In lockdown, when everybody started to play lots of Bridge online, more and more people encountered Strong Notrump and Five-card Majors; after all, it's the standard international system. Many of you have wanted to switch systems, or at least to understand what Strong and Fives is all about.

The aim of this book is to teach you a really effective game of Strong and Fives. For most of my top-level bridge-playing career of over 35 years, I have played Strong and Fives. I think I’m in a very good position to teach you the key bells and whistles.

I am sure you will learn a lot from reading this, even if you are already an experienced Strong and Fives player. You’ll learn lots about card-play too.
